This sweet little future gadget is no ordinary business card. No it doesn't use wireless RFID tech, but has a pattern on the back that mimics a multi-touch gesture. The pattern is composed from conductive ink that lets your phone read the gesture on a specially made app.
People are always looking for a memorable business card and this technology may be a new standard to all future business cards. TouhBase truly did come up with an innovative idea and made a simple piece of card stock smarter.
The app used for the card is not a downloadable app, but a web app, which helps cut out some problems of cross plat forming. Since the reading technology is based off of TouchBase's system you will have to purchase the cards though those to ensure you get a distinct ID pattern. They will let you update your profile as you wish at any time though.
TouchBase is still trying to get the ball rolling using Indiegogo to get some financial push to help fund their idea. The business cards are a pretty unique novelty, but still on the pricey side, and maybe not worth it for some people. They are asking $25 donation for 36 cards to basically beta test this system of unique business cards.
The idea behind the cards is to make things easier to gather information from the card instead of typing it all out, but they have some flaws. TouchBase wants the card user to input the web address to access the application, which seems to counter the point of paying extra for the card. The idea is still young and I am sure they will fix some of the kinks in their method, but until then it just seems like a fancy touch "QR" code.
