Don’t Knock The Smart Glass

The biggest knock against Googles invention Google Glass is that it does not have practical use.  Evena Medical has just released a new advancement in technology with a more practical use.  Evena’s pair of glasses allows the doctor to see through skin in order to see veins in a patient. One may think to themselves why we would need a mini x-ray on our face to give shots when doctors and nurses have been doing it for years.  The answer simply is that we don’t need it, but the technology would make things a lot more efficient.  With Evena’s patented near-infrared visualization it will make getting injections and placing catheters a lot less painful since they can see exactly where to place it.

The glasses don’t only let you see through skin, but it allows the person wearing the glasses to view virtual content over objects in similar fashion as Google Glass.  Another feature these glasses boast is that they can transmit images viewed to remote location through Wi-Fi, 3G, and Bluetooth, and also built in speakers for a conversation to be taken place. Evena’s glasses take recording to another level and sync up with the hospital’s medical records.  This will allow the person wearing the glasses to be able to view the patients’ medical records in real time.

I personally will probably never get to lay my hands on this new technological device, and I would have no reason to use them unless it was just to tinker with them.  I feel as if this will be a great example how to turn what we would think is pretty impractical to something more practical and can benefit society as a whole. It has been reported that Evena Medical  is going to sell the glasses for around $10,000 and will be released in 2014, until then I can’t see what everyone else will be releasing with Google Glass-esque  technology .
