Also known as the Deepnet, the Deep Web is the part of the internet that is almost unknown to the casual user. It is like uncharted territory filled with beasts that would scare your mother, and a lot of the deep web is not indexed in your major search engines, which is likely why a lot of user do not know about them. Google and other search engines have the power to make things unseen and not easy to find by taking away a websites indexing, but a lot of it is opening up to free search and agreements that is making it more searchable.
Brian Krebs
This man is the security blogger who was trying to expose the Target credit card exploit from the deep web. Now it easy to guess what happened when those people in the deep web found out. The anon hackers that run a cyber crime forum were making plans to purchase some heroin from Silk Road which is a underground cyber crime forum. You can buy many different kinds of substances to abuse there, and they were going to mail it to Brian's home. The plan was to call the police as soon as Brian opens the package, but he already had access to the forum and called the police before they could frame him.
There was a study held at the University of California in 2001 that showed there was 7.5 petabytes of deep web. To compare that to the top surface of the internet there is only 19 Terabytes of information ultimately the deep web can engulf it. In 2004 research has shown about 300,000 sites on the deep web at the time, 14,000 of which belonged to Russia servers.
TOR
96% of the world's internet is completely anonymous, and you can't access a lot of the deep web unless you are anonymous. This may bring you to questions of how one even finds the deep web. You need a special browser called TOR, which isn't the only one but it is commonly used. With a TOR browser you can find all the information that is not available to you on the mainstream internet. Even then you will come across a lot of different sites that you will need a password to gain access.
Bitcoin
Bitcoins as of the past year have made a breach towards the surface and is more known about now. If you don't know what it is it is a form of digital currency that has been "mined" using powerful computers (just Google it there is a ton of information). It is known for people to buy drugs and illegal items with their Bitcoins, because there is ultimately no paper trail, which is where Silk Road comes back into play.
Cicada 3301
This is another anon organization that posts highly complex puzzles to help recruits smart capable cryptanalysts from the public. Then they would take them into the deep web, nobody really knows for sure because it is so secretive, but some believe that it is a recruitment process for a spy agency, while some think it is a banking company. So maybe you are smart enough to figure out and then you can let us know because I won't figure out these ridiculous puzzles.
