Snapchat Leaked 4.6 Million Usernames and Phone Numbers

Ever since Snapchat's release it felt like a safe app that made your picture disappear, but it has been plagued with ways for users to "hack" it and view or save images that were supposed to be erased. 2014 starts off poorly for the Snapchat app as hackers have revealed that they have hacked 4.6 million user names and numbers from the company.

A week prior it has been revealed that there are still some loopholes in Snapchat's security that could allow a user to get the phone numbers listed behind the screen names. Snapchat even told everyone on their blog that the loophole indeed did exist, which may be why hackers went through with it knowing it was possible.

Some hackers decided to show that it was truly possible to pull it off and last night they set off to prove that it was possible and still not patched. This is when they released the 4.6 million users and numbers associated to the names. All the information was posted on snapchatdb.info, but is now suspended.

We still have no idea why this company would state that they have all these loopholes, and just sit back and watch it happen. Snapchat could have handled it better and fixed the loophole then stated it was open, but the problem is fixed. If you would like to see if you are one of the people who's username and number were leaked a checker has been set up where you just enter your username to see if you were part of the hack.

In this day and age nothing technological seems to be truly safe, and loopholes exist in many aspects of the internet. Most companies try their best to make it harder for hackers to hack them, and some act lackadaisically as if they do not care about their consumers. Does Snapchat care about your safety and privacy? What do you think?
