Forget learning a new language when we have awesome gadgets like the Sigmo. Yes, it is what you are thinking it is a gadget straight out of Star Trek called the Universal Translator. What the Universal Translator did was help the other alien races speak English through the device. Many companies have tried their attempts at building a workable device like in Star Trek, and the first company to do it successfully is Sigmo.
The awesome little gadget is just the size of a pillbox, that has an integrated microphone and speaker. You select the language you want to translate to, then speak into the box which sends it into the cloud for it to be translated. This is all done through Bluetooth connection with you smartphone. Google Translate helps to crack the language that you do not know, then send it back to the Sigmo. And hopefully it translates properly and you don't end up somewhere you do not want to be.
This awesome gadget will definitely come handy for us who are too lazy to learn a new language, but want to be in a foreign country on vacation or something like that. The only short coming of the device I can see is that it uses internet to translate so if you do not have a connection then your SOL. So maybe in their 2.0 version they will integrate a library of languages into the device so it can be used in a place without internet. The Sigmo is currently priced at $50.
